Overview

The Spektrum Landing Assist Sensor (LAS) is a revolutionary electronics module designed to transform the RC flying experience for pilots of all skill levels. This innovative sensor module provides automatic flare control to help both inexperienced and experienced pilots achieve consistently smooth, controlled landings by minimising or completely eliminating bouncing on touchdown. Whether you're flying your first RC aircraft or you're a seasoned hobbyist, the Landing Assist Sensor represents a significant advancement in making RC flying more accessible, enjoyable and forgiving. The sensor is engineered to work effectively over many different surfaces, with optimum performance when flying over and landing on grass, making it ideal for UK RC enthusiasts who frequently fly from parks, fields and grass airstrips.

This compact and easy-to-install module is compatible with several popular E-flite and HobbyZone aircraft models, meaning existing aircraft owners can upgrade their flying experience without needing to purchase new equipment. The Landing Assist Sensor technology automatically detects when your aircraft is approaching the landing zone and engages flare control to gently reduce descent rate, allowing you to achieve that perfect 'greased' landing that every RC pilot dreams of. For those new to RC aircraft flying in the UK, this sensor eliminates one of the most challenging aspects of the hobby and builds confidence quickly.

With a 5 out of 5 customer rating from Spektrum users, the Landing Assist Sensor has proven itself as a reliable, effective upgrade that delivers real results. RC Model Shop stocks this highly-rated module to support UK RC aircraft enthusiasts who want to enhance their flying experience and improve their landing technique with advanced sensor technology.

Key Features

  • Automatic Flare Control — The sensor automatically engages flare control during landing approach, which means the aircraft's descent rate is gently reduced at the critical moment of touchdown, allowing you to achieve smooth landings without the need for precise manual throttle control.
  • Bounce Elimination Technology — By minimising or completely eliminating bouncing on landing, the Landing Assist Sensor protects your aircraft from damage and wear that would otherwise result from hard or bouncy landings, extending the lifespan of your model.
  • Multi-Surface Compatibility — The sensor works effectively over many different landing surfaces, providing reliable performance whether you're landing on concrete, dirt, tarmac or asphalt, with optimum performance achieved when landing on grass.
  • Easy Installation — Designed for straightforward installation on compatible aircraft, the Landing Assist Sensor requires minimal setup time, allowing you to start enjoying smoother landings quickly without complex configuration.
  • Confidence Building for Inexperienced Pilots — By automating the most challenging aspect of RC flying, this sensor helps new pilots develop their skills with reduced frustration and builds confidence through consistently successful landings.
  • Compatible with Popular Aircraft — The module is specifically designed to work seamlessly with the E-flite Habu STS, E-flite Apprentice STS, and HobbyZone Carbon Cub S 2, ensuring perfect integration with these trusted aircraft platforms.

Technical Performance

The Landing Assist Sensor Module represents sophisticated sensor technology integrated into a compact form factor that doesn't significantly add weight or complexity to your aircraft. The sensor detects altitude and descent rate with sufficient precision to trigger flare control at exactly the right moment during landing approach. This is particularly important for RC aircraft where touchdown dynamics vary considerably depending on wind conditions, landing surface, and aircraft weight distribution. The engineering behind the Landing Assist Sensor allows it to function effectively across a wide range of flying conditions and surfaces common to UK RC flying locations. The module has been tested and validated to work optimally with grass surfaces, which are prevalent at most UK RC flying clubs and informal flying sites. The sensor integrates directly with compatible aircraft's flight control systems, allowing seamless communication between the sensor data and the autopilot/stabilisation systems that manage flare control. This integration ensures that the automatic flare is applied smoothly and progressively rather than abruptly, maintaining aircraft stability throughout the landing sequence. The module's reliability is evidenced by its perfect customer rating, indicating consistent performance across numerous installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Landing Assist Sensor and how does it improve my RC landings? — The Landing Assist Sensor is an advanced electronics module that automatically detects when your aircraft is approaching the landing zone and engages flare control to gently reduce your descent rate. This automation takes the guesswork out of the landing flare, which is the most challenging part of RC flying, and helps you achieve smooth, controlled touchdowns without bouncing. Whether you're learning to fly or improving your technique, the sensor makes landings more consistent and successful.
  • Is the Landing Assist Sensor suitable for beginner RC pilots? — Yes, the Landing Assist Sensor is particularly beneficial for beginner and inexperienced pilots. Landing is often the most difficult skill to master in RC aircraft flying, and this sensor eliminates that challenge by automating the flare control. This allows new pilots to focus on approach and alignment whilst the sensor handles the critical landing phase, building confidence and ensuring more successful flights from the start.
  • Which aircraft are compatible with the Landing Assist Sensor? — The Landing Assist Sensor Module is compatible with the E-flite Habu STS, E-flite Apprentice STS, and HobbyZone Carbon Cub S 2. If you own one of these aircraft, you can install this module as an upgrade. Always verify compatibility with your specific aircraft model before purchasing.
  • Does the Landing Assist Sensor work on all surfaces? — The Landing Assist Sensor works over many different surfaces including concrete, tarmac, dirt and asphalt. However, it provides optimum performance when flying over and landing on grass, which is the most common landing surface at UK RC clubs and flying sites. The sensor's effectiveness may vary slightly depending on surface characteristics, but it has been engineered to provide reliable function across typical UK flying environments.
  • How easy is the Landing Assist Sensor to install? — The module is specifically designed for easy installation on compatible aircraft models. The straightforward setup process means you don't need extensive technical knowledge to integrate the sensor with your aircraft. For detailed installation instructions specific to your aircraft model, consult the documentation provided with the module or contact RC Model Shop for guidance.
