Whether you're a seasoned RC aircraft pilot upgrading your Viper 70mm or building a new high-performance EDF jet, this brushless ESC provides the electrical foundation your aircraft needs for reliable, consistent performance flight after flight.
The E-flite brand is renowned throughout the RC hobby for delivering professional-quality components that balance performance with reliability. This 70-amp ESC fits seamlessly into the E-flite ecosystem, working perfectly alongside genuine E-flite motors, receivers and other power system components available through RC Model Shop. Having the right ESC matched to your aircraft's motor and battery system is fundamental to achieving safe, predictable flight performance, which is why choosing a factory-matched component like this makes sense for serious RC aircraft operators.
Key Features
- 70-Amp Continuous Current Rating — This ESC is rated to handle continuous 70-amp draws from your brushless motor system, providing sufficient headroom for high-performance EDF jets and rapid acceleration demands. The 70-amp specification ensures the controller can handle the sustained power delivery required by modern brushless motors without thermal throttling or performance degradation during extended flight sessions.
- Switch Mode BEC Technology — The integrated switching mode BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) converts your main battery voltage down to stable 5-volt output for receiver and servo power, delivering cleaner electrical power than linear BEC designs. This technology is crucial for reliable receiver signal integrity and smooth servo operation, especially important when flying high-speed aeroplanes where servo response precision directly impacts flight safety and control authority.
- EC5 Connector Format — The heavy-duty EC5 connector (also called Deans connector in some regions) provides a secure, polarised connection to your LiPo battery that physically cannot be connected incorrectly. This connector format features robust contacts that maintain excellent electrical continuity under the high-current demands of brushless motor systems, eliminating voltage drop issues that occur with weaker connector types and ensuring consistent power delivery throughout your flight.
- Brushless Motor Compatibility — This ESC is specifically engineered to drive modern brushless outrunner motors commonly found in EDF jets and high-performance RC aircraft, offering the precise electronic commutation these motors require. Brushless motors deliver superior efficiency, longer runtime and higher power density compared to older brushed motor technology, making them the standard for serious RC aircraft builders and competitive pilots.
- Genuine E-flite Engineering — As an authorised E-flite product, this ESC benefits from the manufacturer's decades of RC aircraft expertise and rigorous quality control standards. E-flite components are factory-tested and matched to work optimally with E-flite airframes, motors and other systems, providing the component-level compatibility that takes guesswork out of aircraft building and ensures predictable performance characteristics.
Technical Performance
The E-flite 70-Amp Switch Mode BEC Brushless ESC represents professional-grade power management engineering designed specifically for high-performance electric RC aircraft applications. At 70 amps continuous current handling capacity, this controller sits in the sweet spot for medium to large EDF jets, rapid-acceleration sport aeroplanes and other brushless-motor aircraft where sustained high power delivery is essential. The switch mode BEC architecture is a significant technical advantage because switching regulators operate at high frequency (typically 20kHz or higher), converting main battery voltage to regulated 5V output with minimal heat dissipation and power loss — this means your receiver and servos get clean, stable power without the voltage sag that occurs with older linear BEC designs. In practical terms, cleaner servo power translates to crisper control response, more reliable receiver signal integrity and better servo holding torque during demanding manoeuvres. The EC5 connector system employs robust brass contacts with gold plating to ensure minimal contact resistance and maximum current flow efficiency; this is particularly important in high-current systems where even tiny voltage losses multiply across long battery-to-ESC-to-motor power paths. The controller integrates comprehensive protection circuitry including overcurrent limiting, thermal management and battery voltage monitoring, providing multiple layers of safety against component damage during flight operations. For RC aircraft operators in the UK seeking a proven, factory-matched power system component that will integrate seamlessly with E-flite Viper 70mm jets and comparable brushless aircraft, this 70-amp ESC delivers the engineering quality and performance reliability that serious pilots depend upon.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the E-flite 70-Amp ESC suitable for the Viper 70mm EDF jet? — Yes, this ESC is specifically engineered as a compatible power system component for the E-flite Viper 70mm EDF jet and carries the same model compatibility designation. The 70-amp rating matches the power demands of the Viper's 70mm ducted fan and brushless motor system, making this an ideal factory-matched upgrade or replacement component for Viper owners.
- What battery type and voltage does this ESC support? — The switch mode BEC design of this E-flite ESC accommodates LiPo battery packs ranging from 3S (11.1V) to 6S (22.2V) configurations. For the Viper 70mm specifically, E-flite offers compatible 6S LiPo batteries (such as the EFLB32006S30 22.2V 3200mAh 30C pack listed among Viper spares), though you should check your specific aircraft's power system documentation to confirm the recommended voltage for your motor and ESC combination.
- What is a switch mode BEC and why does it matter for my RC aircraft? — A switch mode BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) is a voltage regulator that converts your main battery voltage down to stable 5V for powering your receiver and servos, eliminating the need for a separate receiver battery. Switch mode technology uses high-frequency switching to regulate voltage with minimal power loss and heat, delivering cleaner power than older linear BEC designs — this means your servos respond faster, your receiver maintains stronger signal integrity, and your aircraft handles more predictably during flight.
- Can I use this ESC with other aircraft besides the E-flite Viper 70mm? — The E-flite 70-Amp ESC is compatible with any RC aircraft equipped with a brushless motor suitable for 70-amp current handling and accepting EC5 connectors. However, you must verify that your specific aircraft's motor is rated for this ESC's specifications and that the aircraft's power system documentation recommends a 70-amp controller — using an oversized or undersized ESC for your aircraft can result in poor flight characteristics or system damage.
- What does the EC5 connector mean and why is it better than other connectors? — The EC5 connector (sometimes called a Deans or Dean's connector variant) is a heavy-duty polarised connector featuring robust brass contacts with gold plating that ensure excellent electrical conductivity at high currents. The EC5 format physically prevents incorrect connection polarity, includes secure latching mechanisms that prevent accidental disconnection during flight, and exhibits minimal voltage drop even when drawing sustained high currents — all critical factors for reliable RC aircraft power systems.
- Do I need any adapters to use this ESC with my battery or receiver? — This depends on your specific battery and receiver connector types. If your LiPo battery uses a different connector format (such as IC3 or IC5), you may need an EC5 adapter cable to connect it to this ESC. Similarly, if your Spektrum receiver uses a different connector, you may need appropriate adapters. RC Model Shop stocks EC5 adapter cables and extension leads to help integrate this ESC into your existing aircraft power system.
- What protection features does this ESC include? — The E-flite 70-Amp ESC integrates comprehensive protection circuitry including overcurrent protection to prevent damage during high-current draws, thermal management to prevent overheating during sustained high-power operation, and battery voltage monitoring to protect against over-discharge damage to LiPo cells. These protection features work automatically without user intervention, providing multiple layers of safety to protect your expensive RC aircraft components.
