Key Features

  • Brushless Outrunner Design — The brushless construction eliminates brush wear and associated maintenance, delivering consistent performance over extended flight sessions whilst the outrunner configuration provides the high torque characteristics essential for helicopter flight dynamics and responsive control authority.
  • 1320Kv Rating for Optimal Helicopter Performance — The 1320Kv specification is specifically calibrated for 500-size electric helicopter applications, ensuring the motor reaches the RPM range needed for efficient rotor performance and stable flight characteristics without excessive current draw or inefficiency.
  • 6S LiPo Compatibility — Operating on 6S LiPo battery power (22.2V nominal), this motor integrates perfectly with modern RC helicopter battery setups, allowing pilots to utilise widely available, cost-effective LiPo technology for flight power.
  • 1100W Maximum Power Input — The motor handles up to 1100W input, providing ample power for dynamic flight manoeuvres and responsive control whilst maintaining reasonable current draw characteristics that protect battery life and flight duration.
  • 41-50A Continuous Current Rating — The conservative continuous current specification ensures stable operation under sustained flight loads, with the recommended 70-amp brushless speed control providing the appropriate headroom for peak current spikes during aggressive manoeuvres.
  • Compact Physical Dimensions — At just 37mm overall diameter and 159g weight, the motor fits neatly within 500-size helicopter frames, minimising weight whilst delivering the necessary power output for this airframe category.
  • Standard Connectors and Wiring — The 3.5mm bullet connector and 16 AWG wiring provide reliable power delivery and straightforward integration with compatible ESCs and battery connectors found throughout the RC helicopter community.
  • Low Internal Resistance — The 0.032? internal resistance ensures minimal voltage losses during operation, maximising the effective power delivered to the rotor head and improving overall system efficiency.
  • Precision Shaft Specifications — The carefully engineered shaft diameter (4.98mm/4mm) and length (21mm) ensure proper fitment with helicopter gearboxes and drive systems, eliminating alignment issues and vibration problems that compromise flight quality.

Technical Performance

The E Flite 520H motor represents a well-engineered powerplant specifically optimised for the demands of 500-class electric helicopter flight. With its 1320Kv rating and 22.2V operating voltage (6S LiPo), the motor produces RPM characteristics in the range required for efficient rotor head operation and responsive control authority. The brushless outrunner configuration delivers superior torque characteristics compared to inrunner designs, critical for helicopter applications where immediate throttle response and smooth power delivery directly translate to flight quality and pilot control feel. Operating within the 41-50A continuous current envelope keeps heat generation and power loss to practical levels for sustained flight sessions, whilst the 1100W maximum power input specification ensures adequate headroom for dynamic manoeuvres and altitude performance. The motor's low 0.032? internal resistance minimises voltage drop, ensuring consistent performance throughout the battery discharge cycle. At 159 grams, the motor's weight is carefully controlled to suit 500-size airframes without requiring counterbalance adjustments or airframe modifications. The precision machining evident in the 4.98mm/4mm dual-diameter shaft design ensures vibration-free integration with standard helicopter gearbox systems. The 3.5mm bullet connector and 16 AWG wiring accommodate the current flows of this power rating whilst maintaining reliable electrical connectivity. This motor represents the result of careful engineering optimisation, balancing power output, weight, thermal management and electrical characteristics to deliver the specific performance envelope required by 500-size electric helicopter pilots across the UK and beyond. The idle current specification of 3.8A ensures the motor idles cleanly without excessive current draw when the helicopter is hovering or stationary, a critical characteristic for helicopter flight where precise throttle control at low power settings is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What helicopter is the E Flite 520H motor compatible with? — The motor is designed for 500-size electric helicopter applications, including platforms such as the Blade 500 3D and Blade 500 X, as well as other compatible 500-class airframes from various manufacturers. The 37mm diameter and 159g weight ensure proper fitment without requiring airframe modifications.
  • What speed control ESC do I need with this motor? — E Flite recommends a 70-Amp brushless speed control to properly regulate this motor. The recommended amperage rating provides appropriate headroom above the motor's 41-50A continuous current specification, ensuring the ESC operates within safe thermal limits during aggressive flight manoeuvres.
  • What battery does the 520H motor require? — This motor is designed specifically for 6S LiPo batteries, which provide the 22.2V nominal voltage the motor is optimised for. A properly sized 6S LiPo battery pack, charged to the manufacturer's specifications, ensures safe operation within the motor's rated parameters.
  • Is the E Flite 520H suitable for beginners? — Whilst the motor itself is reliable and well-engineered, helicopter flying requires significant piloting skill and experience. Beginners new to RC helicopters are advised to start with trainer-oriented airframes and seek qualified instruction before progressing to advanced flight manoeuvres. The motor's brushless design does eliminate maintenance complexity compared to brushed alternatives.
  • What is the 1320Kv rating and why does it matter? — The 1320Kv specification defines how many RPM the motor produces per volt applied. For this motor, it means approximately 29,040 RPM (1320 × 22.2V) at full 6S throttle. This RPM range is specifically calibrated for 500-size helicopter rotor heads, ensuring the proper blade tip speeds for aerodynamic efficiency and flight control authority.
  • Can I use a different ESC rating with this motor? — Whilst the motor will function with ESCs rated above 70 amps, E Flite's recommendation of a 70-Amp speed control is based on optimising thermal management and electrical characteristics for this specific motor. Using significantly lower-rated ESCs risks overheating the speed control, whilst much higher ratings provide unnecessary cost without performance benefit.
  • What is the weight and why is it important for helicopters? — The motor weighs 159 grams (5.61 ounces). Motor weight directly affects helicopter centre of gravity balance, flight dynamics and overall airframe balance. The 520H's weight is carefully engineered to suit 500-size frames without requiring ballast additions or electronic balance compensation.
  • What connectors does this motor use? — The motor features 3.5mm bullet connectors, a standard connection type throughout the RC helicopter community. The 16 AWG wiring gauge is appropriately sized for the current flows this motor produces, ensuring safe power delivery without voltage losses.
