Available exclusively in 16 teeth configuration for 0.6 module systems, this pinion gear comes complete with everything you need to install it immediately. The straightforward design and universal compatibility with 3.175mm (1/8 inch) shaft diameter motors make this pinion gear a versatile choice for numerous popular RC cars, offering the reliability and precision that will keep your RC vehicle performing at its best.

Key Features

  • CNC Machined Construction — Every Schumacher pinion gear is precision CNC machined to deliver super-true tolerances that ensure perfect mesh with your spur gear, reducing drivetrain noise and wear whilst maximising efficiency and lifespan of your RC car's transmission.
  • High-Quality Steel Material — Manufactured from steel rather than brass or plastic, this pinion gear provides superior durability, impact resistance and longevity, making it the ideal choice for demanding RC car applications where reliability is paramount.
  • Easy Identification — The tooth count is clearly stamped directly onto the gear boss, eliminating any confusion when selecting the correct pinion for your setup and making it simple to identify which gear you're using at a glance.
  • Included Grub Screw — The pinion gear arrives complete with a grub screw for secure attachment to your motor shaft, ensuring the gear remains firmly in place during acceleration, cornering and hard driving without requiring additional purchases.
  • 0.6 Module Specification — Engineered to the 0.6 module standard, this pinion gear is specifically designed for popular RC cars including Tamiya models and FTX Maverick vehicles, ensuring perfect compatibility and smooth engagement with matching spur gears.
  • Universal 3.175mm Shaft Compatibility — With a 3.175mm (1/8 inch) shaft diameter bore, this pinion gear fits the vast majority of standard RC car motors used in UK hobby shops and racing environments, offering excellent cross-platform compatibility.
  • 16 Tooth Configuration — The 16-tooth setup provides a balanced gearing option suitable for various driving styles and track conditions, offering good acceleration characteristics whilst maintaining reasonable top speed potential for 0.6 module RC cars.

Technical Performance

This Schumacher 16T Steel Pinion Gear represents professional-grade engineering applied to drivetrain components. The CNC machining process ensures that every tooth is cut to exact specifications, eliminating the runout and imperfections that can cause vibration, noise and premature wear in your RC car's transmission. The steel construction, as opposed to softer materials like brass or plastic, provides exceptional durability under high-load conditions, making this gear suitable for competitive racing, high-speed bashing and demanding off-road use. The 0.6 module specification is a widely-adopted standard in the RC hobby, and this gear's compatibility with popular vehicles from manufacturers like Tamiya and FTX means you're investing in a component that works seamlessly with some of the most respected platforms in the hobby. The 3.175mm (1/8 inch) shaft diameter is the industry standard for small-scale RC motors, ensuring this pinion gear will work with your existing motor setup without requiring adaptors or modifications. When installed with the matching spur gear and properly meshed, this pinion delivers smooth power transmission with minimal energy loss, translating directly to better acceleration response and more efficient use of your battery's charge cycle. The included grub screw ensures secure retention, preventing the gear from slipping on the motor shaft during hard cornering or aggressive driving.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why does my RC car need one? — The pinion gear is the small gear mounted on your RC car's motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. Together, they form a gear reduction system that converts the motor's high-speed rotation into usable torque at the wheels. When your pinion gear wears out or breaks, you'll notice sluggish acceleration, grinding noises or difficulty maintaining power delivery. Upgrading to a quality pinion gear like this Schumacher unit improves efficiency, reduces noise and extends the life of your entire drivetrain.
  • Is the Schumacher 16T Steel Pinion Gear compatible with my RC car? — This pinion gear is designed for 0.6 module RC cars, which includes popular models such as Tamiya vehicles and FTX Maverick trucks. To confirm compatibility, check your car's specifications for 0.6 module gearing and verify that your motor has a 3.175mm (1/8 inch) shaft diameter. If your car uses these standards, this pinion will fit perfectly and engage properly with your existing spur gear.
  • What is 0.6 module and why does it matter? — Module refers to the pitch and sizing standard of gear teeth. The 0.6 module specification is an industry-standard measurement that ensures gears from different manufacturers will mesh together smoothly and reliably. Choosing the correct module (in this case, 0.6) is essential because mismatched modules will cause poor engagement, noise and rapid wear. This Schumacher pinion is engineered precisely to 0.6 module specifications, guaranteeing perfect mesh with standard 0.6 module spur gears used in compatible RC cars.
  • Why choose a steel pinion gear over brass or plastic alternatives? — Steel pinion gears offer superior durability and longevity compared to softer materials. Brass gears are lighter but wear quickly under aggressive driving, whilst plastic gears are economical but prone to tooth stripping and breaking. This steel pinion from Schumacher provides the hard-wearing durability needed for competitive racing, high-speed bashing and demanding off-road conditions, making it excellent value over the long term as you won't need to replace it as frequently.
  • How do I install the pinion gear and what tools do I need? — Installation is straightforward: slide the pinion gear onto your motor shaft so the grub screw hole aligns with the motor shaft flat or keyway, then tighten the included grub screw firmly to secure the gear in place. You'll need a small hex key (usually 1.5mm or 2mm, depending on your motor) and optionally a small amount of threadlocker to ensure the grub screw doesn't vibrate loose during hard driving. Some drivers prefer to use a small amount of Loctite on the grub screw for extra security.
  • What shaft diameter does this pinion gear fit? — This pinion gear features a 3.175mm (1/8 inch) bore, which is the standard shaft diameter for small-scale RC motors. This universal sizing ensures compatibility with the vast majority of brushless and brushed motors used in 0.6 module RC cars across the UK hobby scene.
  • Can I use different tooth counts with the same spur gear? — Yes, Schumacher manufactures this pinion in multiple tooth counts (16T, 24T and others), allowing you to adjust your car's gearing for different track conditions and driving styles. A lower tooth count (like 16T) provides more top speed but less acceleration, whilst a higher tooth count provides more acceleration but lower top speed. Ensure any gear you choose is the same 0.6 module specification so it meshes correctly with your spur gear.
  • How do I know if my pinion gear needs replacing? — Signs of pinion gear wear include grinding or clicking noises during acceleration, sluggish power delivery, difficulty maintaining consistent speed, or visible tooth damage when you inspect the gear. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's time to replace your pinion gear with a fresh Schumacher unit to restore your car's performance.
  • Is this genuine Schumacher Racing equipment? — Yes, this pinion gear is manufactured by Schumacher Racing, a respected German manufacturer of professional-grade RC racing components. When you purchase from RC Model Shop, you're getting authentic Schumacher products with the quality assurance and precision engineering that the brand is known for.
