Overview

The Traxxas Spur 36-tooth (1.0 metric pitch) TRX3953 is an essential tuning component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who want to optimise their Traxxas model's performance. This optional spur gear allows you to fine-tune the final drive ratio of your RC car, enabling you to balance acceleration and top speed according to your specific running conditions and driving style. Whether you're preparing your RC model for competitive racing, weekend bashing, or casual recreational driving, having the right gearing setup is crucial to maximising both performance and longevity of your vehicle.

Traxxas spur gears have been trusted by RC car UK enthusiasts for decades, and the 36-tooth configuration is the standard out-of-the-box setup for many Traxxas models. By understanding gear ratios and how to adjust them, you gain the ability to customise your RC car's characteristics to suit everything from high-speed circuit racing to technical crawling and off-road bashings. This particular gear features a 1.0 metric pitch specification, ensuring perfect compatibility with Traxxas vehicles that use this standard drivetrain configuration.

RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas parts to ensure your vehicle maintains the quality and reliability you expect. Changing spur gears is one of the most straightforward yet effective tuning modifications available to RC car enthusiasts in the UK, and this 36-tooth option serves as an excellent baseline or replacement component whether you're stocking up spares or experimenting with different gearing ratios.

Key Features

  • 36-tooth configuration — This tooth count represents the standard factory gearing for many Traxxas models, making it an ideal baseline setup or direct replacement for worn components that need restoring.
  • 1.0 metric pitch specification — The gear operates at 1.0 metric pitch, which means it meshes precisely with compatible pinion gears and drivetrain components, ensuring smooth power transmission and minimal noise during operation.
  • Performance tuning capability — By selecting this spur gear alongside different pinion gear options, you can adjust your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics to match your driving environment and personal preference, whether you prefer quick getaways or higher maximum velocities.
  • Direct replacement component — As an optional spare part, this spur gear can replace a damaged or worn original gear, restoring your RC car's drivetrain to factory specification without needing to purchase an entirely new vehicle.
  • Genuine Traxxas manufacture — Built to Traxxas' rigorous engineering standards, this spur gear is manufactured to exact tolerances, ensuring reliable meshing with pinion gears and consistent performance throughout extended driving sessions.
  • Suitable for gearing experimentation — The 36-tooth setup serves as a reference point for understanding how different gear ratios affect your Traxxas model, making it perfect for RC enthusiasts who wish to explore performance tuning and gear ratio theory.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Spur 36-tooth (1.0 metric pitch) TRX3953 represents precision engineering in RC drivetrain components. This spur gear has been manufactured to exact specifications that ensure perfect meshing with compatible Traxxas pinion gears, minimising backlash and vibration whilst maximising power transfer efficiency from your motor to the wheels. The 1.0 metric pitch standard is a critical specification that defines the gear's tooth spacing and ensures compatibility with matching drivetrain components across Traxxas' extensive model range. The 36-tooth configuration provides a balanced approach to gearing, offering a middle ground between aggressive acceleration ratios and high-speed setups. By understanding how spur gear tooth count affects performance, RC car UK drivers can make informed decisions about whether to step up or down in tooth count depending on their specific requirements—fewer teeth deliver quicker acceleration but lower top speed, whilst more teeth increase top speed potential at the cost of slower acceleration. The quality of manufacture means this gear will withstand repeated meshing cycles and the loads generated during normal RC car operation, making it a reliable choice for both casual drivers and serious competitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a spur gear and why does my RC car need one? — A spur gear is a circular gear with teeth around its outer edge that transfers power from your motor through the drivetrain to your wheels. It's a critical component of your RC car's drivetrain, and replacing it is often necessary if it becomes damaged or worn. The spur gear works in conjunction with a pinion gear (mounted on the motor shaft) to transfer rotational power efficiently. Different tooth counts create different gear ratios, affecting how quickly your RC car accelerates and what its maximum speed will be.
  • What does 1.0 metric pitch mean? — Metric pitch refers to the spacing of teeth on the gear. A 1.0 metric pitch means the gear uses the 1.0 module standard, which is a measurement system for gear tooth sizing. This specification is critical because it must match your vehicle's pinion gear and drivetrain components exactly; mixing different pitch standards will result in poor meshing, noise, vibration, and potential damage to your RC car's drivetrain.
  • Is the 36-tooth gear suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. The 36-tooth spur gear is the standard factory configuration for many Traxxas models, meaning it's designed to provide a balanced blend of acceleration and top speed suitable for general RC car operation. Beginners will find this gear works well for learning how to operate their RC vehicle without specialised tuning knowledge, and it's an excellent baseline for understanding how gearing affects performance.
  • How do I know if my spur gear needs replacing? — Signs that your spur gear needs replacement include visible tooth damage, chipped or missing teeth, difficulty engaging with the pinion gear, grinding noises during operation, or reduced power transmission to the wheels. Regular inspection of your drivetrain components during maintenance will help identify problems early before they cause more serious damage to your RC car.
  • Can I use this with any Traxxas model? — This spur gear is designed for Traxxas models that use 1.0 metric pitch specifications. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual to confirm compatibility and verify that this is the correct gearing option for your specific model. Different Traxxas vehicles may use different pitch standards or tooth counts, so verification is essential before purchasing.
  • How do different tooth counts affect performance? — The tooth count on your spur gear directly determines your vehicle's gear ratio when paired with a specific pinion gear. A lower tooth count (fewer teeth) produces faster acceleration and lower top speed, whilst a higher tooth count (more teeth) produces slower acceleration but higher top speed potential. The 36-tooth configuration offers a balanced middle ground between these extremes.
