For those seeking a capable, well-engineered brushed RC crawler with dual steering options and impressive articulation, the Ravine represents exceptional value. Its TVP chassis design and proven FTX engineering ensure durability and performance across rocks, mud, and challenging terrain. This is the perfect ready to run RC for anyone wanting serious crawling credentials without the complexity or expense of larger models.

Key Features

  • M.O.A. (Motor-on-Axle) Design — The dual 380-sized motors are mounted directly over the axles rather than to the side, delivering a significantly lower centre of gravity and dramatically improved control and stability when navigating challenging terrain and steep inclines. This is a signature feature of premium crawlers and gives the Ravine a substantial performance advantage over conventional layouts.
  • Switchable Steering Modes — Two 6kg-rated steering servos are fitted both front and rear, allowing you to instantly switch between multiple steering configurations whilst driving. Choose tight 4-wheel steering for navigating confined spaces at low speed, or engage crab-steering mode to change direction on softer surfaces and at higher speeds. This flexibility is controlled directly from the transmitter, providing instant help when negotiating the trail without stopping.
  • Dual 380 Brushed Motors — Two independent 380-sized brushed motors deliver reliable, consistent power with excellent controllability. Brushed motors are proven in RC applications and offer outstanding durability and low maintenance compared to other powertrain options, making them ideal for trail use and rocky terrain.
  • 4-Wheel Drive and 4-Wheel Steering — This dual system gives unprecedented traction and manoeuvrability across challenging surfaces. The 4WD drivetrain ensures power reaches all four wheels simultaneously, whilst the 4WS capability allows radical steering geometry adjustments, making the Ravine exceptionally capable in tight spots and over obstacles.
  • Multi-Link Suspension with Oil-Filled Shocks — Front and rear 4-link suspension geometry is matched with aluminium-capped oil-filled shock absorbers, providing massive articulation and compliance. This suspension design allows the chassis to maintain ground contact across uneven terrain whilst absorbing impacts from rocks and drops, keeping the Ravine planted and under control.
  • Scale-Inspired Roll Cage Crawler Frame — The tubular roll cage design and interior cockpit panels are modelled on full-sized caged rock crawlers, delivering authentic styling whilst providing genuine structural protection during impacts and rollovers. The TVP chassis design optimises weight distribution and ensures durability across countless wheeling sessions.
  • Beadlock Wheels with Aggressive Tyres — The 2.2-inch supersoft, heavy-lugged all-terrain tyres are secured to beadlock-style wheels, ensuring tyres remain seated under extreme torque and challenging terrain. This is a critical feature for serious crawling, as tyre slip and loss of grip are effectively eliminated, providing consistent traction and bite across rocks, mud, and obstacles.
  • 2.4GHz Radio System — The integrated 2.4GHz radio frequency provides modern interference-free communication with excellent range and response time. This frequency is the global standard for RC vehicles and guarantees reliability and compatibility with no channel conflicts.
  • Li-Ion 2S 7.4V 1500mAh Battery — A genuine lithium-ion 2S pack provides consistent voltage delivery and excellent performance across multiple charge cycles. The 1500mAh capacity delivers genuine runtime for trail sessions, whilst the included USB balance charger enables quick turnarounds between runs.
  • Complete RTR Package — This is supplied as a ready to run RC model, arriving fully assembled with all major components pre-installed and tested. Everything needed for immediate use is included, apart from three AA batteries for the transmitter.

Technical Performance

The FTX Ravine delivers impressive performance through a carefully engineered combination of proven technologies. Powered by dual 380-sized brushed motors coupled to an FTX ESC and driven by a Li-Ion 2S 7.4V 1500mAh battery, the Ravine provides consistent, controlled power delivery across challenging terrain. The 1:40.25 gear ratio optimises the balance between speed and torque, delivering genuine crawling power whilst maintaining control at all speeds. The suspension geometry is particularly well-considered: the 320mm wheelbase provides excellent articulation without sacrificing stability, whilst ground clearance of 45mm allows confident navigation over rocks and obstacles. Dimensions of 440mm length, 230mm width, and 275mm height are perfectly proportioned for rock crawling, delivering a stable footprint without excessive size or weight. The 1750g overall weight is well-balanced between traction and responsiveness, ensuring the Ravine maintains grip through power application whilst remaining easy to control and manoeuvre. Multi-link suspension front and rear, coupled with oil-filled shocks, allows extraordinary articulation: each wheel can move independently to maintain ground contact, which is the defining characteristic of capable rock crawlers. The beadlock wheels with 63mm diameter and 130mm-diameter tyres are specifically chosen for maximum traction across rocky, muddy and loose terrain. This is a brushed RC crawler, meaning excellent reliability, easy maintenance, and straightforward troubleshooting. The TVP chassis design ensures longevity and resistance to flexing, critical for rock crawling where uneven loading and extreme torque are constants.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the FTX Ravine suitable for RC crawling beginners? — Yes, the Ravine is specifically designed as an accessible entry point into 1/10 rock crawling. It arrives ready to run (RTR), requiring minimal assembly or technical knowledge. The brushed motor system is straightforward to understand and maintain, the dual steering modes provide flexibility as you learn, and the proven FTX engineering ensures reliability. Customer reviews consistently praise it as excellent value and an ideal introduction to crawling for all ages. The skill level rating of 2 indicates intermediate capability, making it perfect for first-time crawlers with basic RC experience.
  • What battery does the FTX Ravine require, and how long does it run? — The Ravine is powered by a 2S Li-Ion 7.4V 1500mAh rechargeable battery pack included in the box. This genuine lithium-ion battery provides consistent voltage delivery and excellent cycle life. Runtime varies depending on driving style and terrain, but the 1500mAh capacity typically delivers 20-40 minutes of trail time per charge. The included USB balance charger allows quick recharging between sessions, with full charge typically achieved in 1-2 hours depending on charger specifications.
  • What makes the M.O.A. (Motor-on-Axle) design so important? — The M.O.A. design mounts both 380-sized motors directly above the axles rather than to the side of the chassis. This positioning dramatically lowers the centre of gravity, improving stability across uneven terrain and reducing the tendency to tip on steep inclines. It also provides more balanced weight distribution across the wheelbase and creates more internal space for suspension articulation. This is a design feature typically found on much more expensive crawlers, making the Ravine exceptional value.
  • Can I change steering modes whilst driving? — Yes, this is one of the Ravine's standout features. Both front and rear steering servos are controlled independently from the 2.4GHz transmitter, allowing you to switch between different steering modes instantly whilst moving. Switch to 4-wheel steering for ultra-tight turning circles at low speed when navigating confined spaces, or engage crab steering at higher speeds on softer surfaces like mud. This flexibility is a genuine performance advantage that helps you tackle terrain you might otherwise be stuck on.
  • What is the difference between the Ravine and other FTX crawlers? — The Ravine's defining features are its dual M.O.A. motor design, switchable front and rear steering servos, and the 1:40.25 gear ratio tuned specifically for rock crawling. The TVP chassis and 4-link suspension geometry are purpose-built for maximum articulation and terrain capability. It represents a more advanced crawling platform than entry-level models, yet remains accessible and affordable compared to professional-grade crawlers.
  • Is the Ravine waterproof? — The Ravine is not rated as fully waterproof, though many customers report using it in wet, muddy conditions. The electronics are reasonably protected by the chassis design, but submersion should be avoided. Water crossings and wet terrain are generally acceptable, but rinsing with fresh water after muddy sessions is recommended to prevent corrosion.
  • What terrain is the Ravine best suited for? — The Ravine excels on rocky, uneven, and technical terrain where maximum articulation and traction are critical. The aggressive 2.2-inch tyres and beadlock wheels are designed for loose, unpredictable surfaces, and the multi-link suspension shines on boulder-strewn hillsides and challenging obstacle courses. It's equally at home in muddy conditions, sand, and overgrown woodland terrain. Grass and smooth surfaces work well, but the Ravine really demonstrates its capabilities on challenging, varied terrain.
  • How durable is the Ravine? — FTX has a strong reputation for engineering durability, and the Ravine reflects this through its solid construction, proven motor reliability, and well-designed suspension geometry. The beadlock wheels, oil-filled shocks, and ball bearings all contribute to longevity. Extensive spare parts availability (as evidenced by the comprehensive parts listing) ensures long-term support and repairability. Regular maintenance and careful driving technique will ensure many seasons of reliable service.
