Overview

The Traxxas Oil, Differential (10K wt) TRX5135 is an essential maintenance product for any RC car enthusiast in the UK who wants to fine-tune their vehicle's performance. This specialist differential oil is designed specifically for Traxxas RC models and allows you to adjust the limited slip action of your gear differential with precision. Whether you're running a brushless RC buggy, a high-speed RC monster truck, or any other Traxxas platform, having the correct differential oil weight in your vehicle is crucial for optimal handling and turning performance. The 10K weight variant offers a moderate viscosity that works well across a variety of track conditions and driving styles, making it an excellent choice for both weekend bashers and competitive racers looking to dial in their setup.

Differential oil might seem like a small component, but it plays a vital role in how your RC car handles on the track or off-road. By adjusting the limited slip capability of your gear differential using different oil weights, you can enhance your vehicle's turning performance and achieve faster exit speeds from corners. This level of performance tuning is what separates casual RC car UK enthusiasts from those who are serious about getting the most from their investment. The Traxxas Oil, Differential (10K wt) is manufactured to the highest Traxxas standards, ensuring compatibility with your RC model and consistent performance every time you run.

Available now from RC Model Shop, this differential oil is an affordable way to experiment with your RC car's setup and discover which weight works best for your driving style and local track conditions. Whether you're preparing for competition or simply want to improve your weekend bashing experience, having multiple weights of differential oil on hand allows you to make quick adjustments without expensive modifications to your vehicle.

Key Features

  • Precise Viscosity Control — The 10K weight specification provides a medium viscosity that allows you to fine-tune your differential's limited slip action, giving you direct control over how much your vehicle understands and responds to turning inputs. This level of adjustability is essential for optimising performance across different track surfaces and weather conditions.
  • Enhanced Turning Performance — By using the correct differential oil weight, you can increase or decrease the limited slip action of your gear differential, which directly translates to faster exit speeds from corners and more controlled handling through technical sections of your track.
  • Easy to Change — Unlike suspension geometry changes or motor upgrades, switching differential oil weights is quick, non-destructive, and requires no special tools or expertise. This makes it perfect for experimenting during a race day to find the optimal setup for current conditions.
  • Traxxas Official Product — This is genuine Traxxas differential oil manufactured to the exact specifications required by Traxxas RC vehicles. Using official Traxxas lubricants ensures you're putting approved products into your model, maintaining warranty coverage and guaranteeing compatibility with your vehicle's differential system.
  • Multiple Weights Available Separately — The Traxxas differential oil range includes multiple weight options, allowing you to build a complete tuning kit. You can purchase each weight separately and keep several on hand, enabling rapid setup changes between races or practice sessions.
  • Cost-Effective Performance Tuning — Compared to replacing chassis components or adjusting suspension geometry, differential oil adjustment represents an extremely affordable way to experiment with setup changes and optimise your RC car's performance.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Oil, Differential (10K wt) TRX5135 is engineered using premium synthetic lubricant technology that resists breakdown under the high pressures and temperatures found inside modern RC vehicle differentials. The 10K weight designation refers to the oil's viscosity rating, which determines how freely it flows through the differential gear assembly whilst still providing adequate lubrication and limited slip characteristics. This medium weight is particularly versatile and works effectively in various temperatures and track conditions, making it suitable for use in the UK climate throughout the year. The oil is formulated to maintain consistent performance characteristics over extended use, resisting oxidation and maintaining its protective film even during extended bashing sessions or competitive racing. The product's engineering allows it to effectively control differential spin-up, which is the key to managing how aggressively your vehicle turns and how much traction it maintains through corners. Whether you're running on tarmac, dirt, carpet, or mixed surfaces, having the ability to adjust differential behaviour through oil weight changes gives you a mechanical advantage without requiring expensive upgrades or modifications to your vehicle's core components.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does differential oil weight mean and how does it affect my RC car? — Differential oil weight, expressed in units like 10K, refers to the viscosity or thickness of the oil. Thicker (heavier) oils provide more resistance to differential spin-up, reducing traction and making your vehicle turn more aggressively. Thinner (lighter) oils allow the differential to spin more freely, providing more traction and smoother turning characteristics. The 10K weight sits in the middle of the range, making it versatile for most drivers and conditions. By changing differential oil weight, you can fine-tune your RC car's handling without modifying expensive hardware components.
  • Will this differential oil work in all Traxxas RC models? — The Traxxas Oil, Differential (10K wt) TRX5135 is designed for Traxxas vehicles with gear differentials. We recommend checking your specific model's manual to confirm compatibility, as some models may use sealed differentials or require different maintenance. Most standard Traxxas RC cars, trucks, and buggies use this type of differential oil for tuning and maintenance.
  • How often should I change my differential oil? — The frequency of differential oil changes depends on how heavily you use your RC car. For casual weekend bashing, checking and potentially replacing differential oil once every few months of regular use is typical. For competitive racing where you're experimenting with setup changes, you may change oils multiple times during a race day. Regular inspection of your differential oil will show you when it has become contaminated with dirt or has degraded, indicating it's time for a change.
  • What's the difference between 10K, 50K, and other differential oil weights? — Different viscosity weights provide different handling characteristics. Lighter oils like 5K allow maximum differential slip and are suited to high-traction surfaces or drivers who want maximum agility. The 10K weight offers a balanced approach suitable for general purpose use. Heavier oils like 50K provide more differential lock and are better for low-traction surfaces or drivers who want less aggressive turning. Most serious RC enthusiasts keep several weights on hand and switch between them based on track conditions and driving style preferences.
  • Can I mix different weights of differential oil? — Whilst technically you could blend oils, it's not recommended as you would lose the specific performance characteristics of each weight. Instead, we recommend draining your differential completely and refilling with a single weight choice for consistent, predictable performance.
  • Is differential oil tuning suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. Differential oil adjustment is one of the easiest and most cost-effective tuning options available to RC car enthusiasts. It requires no technical knowledge beyond basic maintenance skills and allows beginners to experiment with setup changes and understand how these adjustments affect their vehicle's handling. It's an excellent learning tool for understanding RC car dynamics.
  • How long does one bottle of differential oil last? — A single bottle of Traxxas differential oil contains enough lubricant for multiple differential fill-ups. Most standard Traxxas differentials require only a small amount of oil, so a single bottle will typically last through numerous changes and experiments, making this a very cost-effective tuning option.
