Key Features
- Telescopic Sliding Design — The telescopic mechanism allows the centre drive to extend and contract smoothly as your suspension articulates over challenging terrain, maintaining constant power delivery to both front and rear axles without binding or losing engagement, which is essential for technical crawling.
- Front and Rear Application — This component serves both front and rear drivetrain positions on the FTX Outback 2.0, making it a versatile spare that covers critical areas of your crawler's power transmission system.
- OEM Quality Construction — Manufactured to FTX's exacting standards, this centre drive is built with precision tolerances and durable materials designed to withstand the rigorous demands of off-road crawling without premature wear or failure.
- Direct Compatibility — Engineered as an exact replacement for the FTX Outback 2.0, this component requires no modification or additional parts to fit, ensuring a straightforward installation process even for those newer to RC maintenance.
- Essential Wear Item — Like all drivetrain components, the centre drive experiences wear during use; keeping genuine FTX spares on hand ensures you can quickly return your crawler to action rather than facing downtime.
- Affordable Maintenance Solution — At just £11.99, this replacement centre drive represents excellent value for maintaining your FTX Outback 2.0 platform without breaking your hobby budget.
Technical Performance
The FTX Outback 2.0 Front and Rear Telescopic Sliding Centre Drive represents thoughtful engineering for the crawler platform. The telescopic mechanism is precisely calibrated to maintain engagement with your vehicle's transmission whilst allowing the smooth articulation that modern crawling demands. This balance between rigidity and flexibility is what separates effective crawling components from those that simply look the part. The centre drive transmits power from your main transmission to the front and rear axles, and any wear or damage in this component directly impacts your crawler's ability to maintain consistent traction and steering response across uneven ground. The sliding design accounts for suspension geometry changes as your vehicle climbs over obstacles or descends into rough terrain, preventing the binding that would otherwise occur with a fixed-length driveshaft. FTX has engineered this component to work seamlessly within the Outback 2.0's proven suspension design, which means you get the benefit of tested, real-world performance data. The materials used throughout are selected for durability and resistance to the stresses of RC crawling, including impacts, twisting forces, and the general wear that comes from repeated suspension cycling.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the FTX8269 centre drive compatible with other FTX models? — This component is specifically engineered for the FTX Outback 2.0 platform and is not compatible with other FTX crawler models such as the standard Outback, Outback Fury, or Mini Outback ranges. Always verify model compatibility before purchasing spares to ensure proper fit and function.
- How often should I replace my centre drive? — Centre drives are wear items that depend on your usage intensity. Heavy crawlers who frequently tackle technical terrain may see noticeable wear within 50-100 hours of use, whilst casual weekend bashers might get several hundred hours before replacement becomes necessary. Inspect your centre drive regularly for play or binding, and replace it if you notice inconsistent power delivery or unusual sounds during operation.
- Can I install this myself, or do I need professional help? — The FTX Outback 2.0 centre drive replacement is straightforward enough for most RC enthusiasts with basic mechanical experience. You'll need standard RC tools such as hex drivers and possibly a small pulley or vice to remove and install the component. If you're new to RC maintenance, our team at RC Model Shop can provide guidance, and many local hobby shops offer installation services if you prefer professional assistance.
- What causes centre drive wear? — Centre drives wear due to repetitive suspension articulation, impact loads from obstacles, and the normal stresses of power transmission. Hard landings, running at full throttle over rocky terrain, and drivetrain binding all accelerate wear. Regular maintenance, proper setup, and using your crawler within its intended performance envelope help extend component life.
- Is this a genuine FTX part? — Yes, this FTX8269 centre drive is a genuine OEM spare manufactured by FTX. When you purchase from RC Model Shop, you're buying directly from an authorised FTX retailer, guaranteeing authenticity and full compatibility with your Outback 2.0.
