The combination of hard-anodised aluminium bodies with PTFE coating and titanium-nitride shock shafts creates a friction-reducing suspension system that delivers superior performance in competition conditions or extreme terrain crawling scenarios.

For RC enthusiasts in the UK seeking ready-to-run or competition-grade upgrades, these Traxxas shocks represent the pinnacle of trail-proven suspension technology. The investment in premium materials and advanced coatings pays dividends in improved axle articulation, reduced stiction, and longer service intervals between rebuilds—making them an excellent choice for those serious about maximising their TRX-4's potential.

Key Features

  • Hard-Anodised PTFE-Coated Aluminium Bodies — The shock bodies feature a hard-anodised finish combined with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) coating, which is a super-slick, low-friction material that reduces friction between the piston and shock body to an absolute minimum, resulting in smoother damping action and more responsive suspension performance on the trail.
  • Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated Shock Shafts — The gold-coloured TiN coating is not merely cosmetic; it is a ceramic material that hardens the surface of the shock shaft, reduces friction significantly, and eliminates "stiction" (static friction) that can impede smooth articulation during technical crawling.
  • X-Ring Seals — Premium X-ring seal technology keeps shock oil contained whilst minimising internal resistance, ensuring long-lasting performance and reliability during extended trail sessions.
  • Plated Shafts — The shock shafts feature protective plating that works in conjunction with the TiN coating to resist scuffing and reduce seal wear, extending the lifespan of the shocks between rebuilds.
  • Threaded Aluminium Bodies — The threaded design allows for easy ride height adjustments using the spring retaining collar, enabling you to fine-tune your TRX-4's geometry for different terrain types and crawling conditions.
  • Assembled with Spring Retainers — These shocks arrive fully assembled with spring collars installed, eliminating assembly work and allowing immediate installation onto your TRX-4 platform.
  • Oil-Filled Coilover Design — The oil-filled coilover construction provides consistent, predictable damping characteristics across a wide range of suspension speeds, from slow, precise articulation over rocks to quick compressions and rebounds on rough terrain.
  • Scale-Sized Premium Suspension — Designed specifically as scale-sized components for the TRX-4, these shocks maintain the trail-truck aesthetic whilst delivering high-performance engineering suitable for extreme off-road use.

Technical Performance

These Traxxas GTS shocks represent serious suspension engineering optimised for extreme off-road performance. The hard-anodised, PTFE-coated aluminium bodies combined with titanium-nitride shock shafts create a low-friction suspension system that delivers smooth, precise damping without the resistance that plagues standard chrome-plated shafts. The PTFE coating reduces friction between the piston and shock body to an absolute minimum, whilst the TiN shaft coating hardens the surface and eliminates stiction—that unwanted static friction that prevents instantaneous suspension response. The factory-filled shock oil provides consistent damping from the moment of installation, and the oil-filled design ensures reliable performance across temperature ranges and terrain conditions encountered during UK trail crawling sessions. The X-ring seals combined with protective plating on the shafts create a seal system that minimises wear and maintains consistent damping control over extended use. For competition-level performance, these shocks are engineered to work with lower-viscosity shock oils (20-25 weight compared to the factory 30-weight specification) for reduced damping force and enhanced axle articulation—a feature exploited by competitive crawlers optimising their TRX-4 for extreme terrain. The threaded bodies allow for precise ride height tuning, and the assembled-with-spring-retainers configuration means installation is straightforward for anyone familiar with basic RC maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is PTFE coating and why does it matter on RC shock bodies? — PTFE stands for Polytetrafluoroethylene, a super-slick, low-friction material commonly used in industrial and high-performance applications. When applied to shock bodies in combination with hard-anodised aluminium, PTFE reduces friction between the piston and shock body to an absolute minimum, resulting in smoother damping action, faster suspension response, and more consistent performance during technical crawling. This is particularly valuable for UK RC enthusiasts competing in extreme terrain events where every millisecond of suspension responsiveness matters.
  • What does Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating do on the shock shafts? — The gold-coloured TiN coating is a ceramic hardening treatment that significantly reduces friction, eliminates "stiction" (static friction resistance), resists scuffing, and extends the lifespan of the seals. TiN-coated shafts maintain their protective finish longer than chrome-plated alternatives, meaning your shocks will operate with less resistance and require fewer rebuilds, making these shocks excellent value for competitive and recreational crawlers alike.
  • Are these shocks suitable for beginners? — Yes, these shocks are suitable for beginners with basic RC maintenance knowledge. They arrive fully assembled with spring retainers and pre-filled with shock oil, requiring only installation onto your TRX-4. However, optimising them for competition-level performance (such as changing to lower-viscosity oil and upgrading other components) requires more advanced technical skills. For straightforward trail use, they are ready to install and use immediately upon receipt.
  • Do these shocks work on all TRX-4 models? — These shocks are compatible with all Traxxas TRX-4 variants, including the Chevrolet K10 Cheyenne High Trail Edition, Ford F-150 Ranger XLT High Trail Edition, 1972 Chevrolet K5 Blazer High Trail Edition, Nissan Pathfinder SE-V6, 2021 Ford Bronco, TRX-4 Defender, TRX-4 Sport, and other TRX-4 platform models. Compatibility is verified across red, black, blue, silver, copper, brown, orange, white, green, and sand colour variants.
  • What shock oil should I use and what viscosity is recommended? — These shocks arrive pre-filled with 30-weight silicone shock oil from the factory. For competition-level performance and extreme terrain crawling, Traxxas recommends using lower-viscosity 20-25 weight silicone shock oil, which reduces damping force and delivers more responsive axle articulation. Lower-viscosity oil is particularly beneficial for technical rock crawling where rapid suspension response to terrain features is critical.
  • Can these shocks be rebuilt, and what maintenance do they require? — Yes, these shocks can be fully rebuilt using optional Traxxas rebuild kits. The GTS shock rebuild kit (8262) can refresh shocks back to like-new condition after extended use. For maximum seal performance, Traxxas recommends lubricating X-rings with specialist suspension seal grease (available from hobby shops, motorcycle accessory retailers, or bicycle shops). With proper maintenance and the superior TiN shaft coating, these shocks are engineered for extended service intervals between rebuilds compared to standard chrome-plated alternatives.
  • How do these compare to standard GTS shocks? — These premium TRX8260X shocks differ from basic GTS shocks in three critical ways: the hard-anodised PTFE-coated aluminium bodies reduce friction between piston and body; the titanium-nitride coated shafts eliminate stiction and extend seal life; and they feature improved X-ring seal technology. Together, these upgrades deliver smoother damping, faster suspension response, and longer service intervals—making them the choice for serious crawlers and competitors willing to invest in superior performance.
  • What makes these shocks "competition-ready" as mentioned in Traxxas documentation? — Traxxas describes these shocks as "competition-ready" because they represent the foundational upgrade for extreme terrain crawling. The PTFE-coated bodies and TiN shafts minimise internal friction, whilst the X-ring seals deliver precise damping control. When combined with optional upgrades (red pistons for reduced damping force, white seal spacers for less compression, ultra shock rebuild kits, and lower-viscosity oil), these shocks achieve the absolute minimum shaft resistance without compromising damping control—the ideal specification for technical competitions where terrain responsiveness is paramount.
